IT IS A great time to train for a career in agriculture, according to a study by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research.<\/p>\n
Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud welcomed the findings, which list managerial jobs, including farm managers, as the sector which will have the second most number of job openings by 2024 – 10,100 per year or almost 81,000 total.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe future looks bright for a job in agriculture,\u201d Minister Littleproud said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFamers are the backbone of our regional communities, supporting local jobs and the social fabric of our towns.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs farming gets more mechanised, so will the associated jobs, people with IT expertise, business savvy and specialised skills will be more and more in demand in and around farms.<\/p>\n
\u201cFarmers have always been natural innovators and advances in science, drones and smart devices are now playing key roles in making our farms more efficient and profitable.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe good news is innovation and technology look set to create more jobs on our farms, not less.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Coalition Government is working with industry to ensure we take full advantage of these job opportunities, investing in research and development to improve farmgate productivity and profitability.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough our free trade agreements we are also opening up new markets for our produce, creating more jobs and helping to lift our agriculture sector towards being a $100 billion industry by 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n
Data indicates that government and industry invest more than $600 million annually in research and development and extension through rural research and development corporations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
