TWO streets on the Bellarine Peninsula have received support from the City of Greater Geelong to fund partial road construction and sealing works.<\/p>\n
Councillors voted to give notice of intention to declare a Special Charge Scheme to complete the works in Drysdale and Portarlington.<\/p>\n
Special Charge Schemes are used to pay for roads, footpaths and drains benefiting peoples land, with the cost shared by the property owners effected by the upgrades.<\/p>\n
Road construction and sealing on Portarlington’s Willis Street, between Harding and Brown streets, will be the first to be partially funded by the scheme.<\/p>\n
Newcomb Street between Princess Street and The Glen will be the second to undergo partial works.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said it was great to see the local improvement, funded in collaboration with residents.<\/p>\n
“We are pleased to progress these schemes to the next stage to improve the safety and usability of the impacted streets.<\/p>\n
Complaints and a petition from residents requesting to seal the roads has led to the proposed works, aiming to improve amenity, road safety and limit impacts from dust, mud and stone scatter for all users.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
