TORQUAY has its first official female competitive boxer with Saskia Leahy winning at the Victorian Amateur Boxing League on April 28.<\/p>\n

Saskia joined three other Torquay Boxing fighters, under the tutelage of trainer Ashley Lynch, who saw massive success at the competition in Melbourne with three wins from three fights.<\/p>\n

Welterweight Saskia achieved a stunning technical knockout over Melbourne\u2019s Beck Romyn in round two.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuper fit and fearless Saskia has only been boxing for one year but simply broke the other girls will landing such a high volume of effective punches,\u201d Torquay Boxing\u2019s Ashley Lynch said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer courageous opponent who fought back time and time again was unable to continue.”<\/p>\n

The Melbourne opponent of Torquay\u2019s Michael Cordner (Victorian State Champion 2017) chose not to fight at the last minute.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis to me is plain arrogance, an insult, a breach of contract; especially after Michael\u2019s hard work he put into his training as well as a disappointment for supportive family and friends who drove the distance to attend,\u201d Mr Lynch said. \u201cThankfully, most boxers come with an intention to be honourable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torquay lightweight Logan Drill outclassed and outfought Thomas McKellar of Melbourne with a second-round stoppage.<\/p>\n

\u201cLogan was all business causing the referee to stop the fight early in round two,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

And fellow lightweight Torquay crowd-pleaser Euan Kennedy found himself in a close war with Melbourne\u2019s Stefano Mazzacca but took the win by unanimous points decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cExtremely proud of them. Next time in May we\u2019ll be heading to Albury-Wodonga to get acquainted.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next Victorian Amateur Boxing League bout will take place on May 26 at Wodonga Racecourse, corner of Wilson Street and Hamilton Smith Drive, with doors open at 6pm for a 7pm start.<\/p>\n
