BENDIGO residents now have more options when it comes to getting the healthcare they need – when they need it.

Bendigo United Friendly Societies (UFS) has extended its trial of an After-Hours Nurse Service, offering professional care every evening from 4pm to 9pm, seven days a week, at their View Street Pharmacy.

This nurse-led initiative is designed to bridge the gap between GP clinics closing and hospital emergency departments. From vaccinations and wound care to treating common ailments like ear, throat, and skin issues, the service provides a convenient solution for families and individuals who don’t want to wait until morning or face long waits at the hospital. Preventative health checks are also available, helping locals stay on top of their wellbeing.

The trial, running through to the end of 2025, comes in response to a growing need for accessible after-hours care – especially following the end of state funding for 24-hour Supercare pharmacies. In the absence of government support, Bendigo UFS has stepped up to fund extended pharmacy hours themselves, now opening from 7am to 11pm daily.

“This service is for those everyday health issues that happen outside of normal business hours,” said Bendigo UFS CEO Nicole Cox.

“It’s ideal for parents with sick kids, busy working adults, and anyone needing fast, professional care without heading to the emergency department.”

By offering timely treatment, Bendigo UFS hopes to take pressure off local GPs and hospitals, while continuing their long-standing commitment to the health of the community.

Bookings for the After-Hours Nurse Service can be made at www.bendigoufs.com.au/nurse-on-duty, with walk-ins also welcome.

This is community-driven care in action- practical, accessible, and responsive to what Bendigo needs most.
