Something for everyone at BSSC
BENDIGO students aiming for academic excellence in an engaging and nurturing environment will find everything they need at Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
Right alongside the widest range of VCE subjects of any Victorian college, BSSC offers state-of-the-art technology and multiple specialist learning centres.
Whether students are heading for a university course, TAFE, or an apprenticeship with a local business, BSSC can prepare every student comprehensively for their future. The big question is: what do our students say about their college?
BSSC actively seeks feedback from students – they are, of course, the whole focus of education.
Year 12 Student Ambassador, Ashton Daza, describes BSSC as a school where students will find people who understand and appreciate them.
Whatever your interest, Ashton says there will be a place and space for you, and you will be able to make a better transition to adulthood.

“BSSC is great academically, but if you want to get more out of VCE than just a great ATAR, then this school has it all,” he said.
“Diverse is the word I would use to describe this college.”
He appreciates being able to work out the study techniques that work best for him without the college dictating how things must be done. He’s also found a terrific level of support and generous sharing of ideas between students, as techniques for SAC and exam preparation are discussed.
Emily McCooke – also in Year 12 – has found that the independence and freedom students are given has inspired a strong sense of being treated like an adult.
“Teachers don’t nag you if you haven’t done the work, but they do praise the students who have,” she said. “And, if you are getting behind and ask for help, they will do everything to support you.”
Teaching staff regularly run subject masterclasses, revision lectures and bootcamps, ensuring students have the opportunity to excel – no matter their program.
“I often tell people about the welcoming quality of the college, as well as the variety of subjects on offer – which is actually a kind of inclusion, too,” Emily said.
Apart from the plethora of academic opportunities available at the college, BSSC offers the opportunity for young people to build valuable leadership skills, too.
Each year the college elects four Year 11 and four Year 12 student leaders to represent BSSC at community events, organise school-wide initiatives, and be the voice for our student body.

When we asked Year 11 student, Aliza, what drew her to be involved with the leadership program, she said she wanted grow as a person.
“At the start of the year some Year 12 students spoke at an assembly and encouraged us to embrace opportunities,” she said. “I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and join.
“I want to be a role model for at least one other person.”
With students like these representing BSSC, the future looks very bright indeed.
