ALUMNI, current students, faculty and friends of Eaglehawk Secondary College have been invited to attend its 60th Anniversary celebration on Saturday 2 November from 11am to 3pm.

The College started out as Eaglehawk High School in 1964 in five portable classrooms at the Camp Hill State School in Gaol Road, before moving to its current site the year after.

In 1981 it became known as Eaglehawk High Technical School to reflect the growing offering of trade and engineering related electives, before becoming Eaglehawk Secondary College in 1989 during its 25th anniversary year.

As part of the proceedings the school will be opened up from 11am to 3pm, with students guiding tours around the campus to demonstrate how much has changed over the decades.

There will also be a barbecue lunch and afternoon tea, as well as a commemorative tree planting and memorabilia displays.

Recently appointed principal Richelle Hollis said one of the first things she found out when she started this time last year was that the school would be celebrating the milestone.

“I thought what a great way to build connections with the local community and to really celebrate the school,” she said.

“It’ll be an interesting opportunity for former students to come and have a look at the school as to how it is now.”

“We really encourage former staff, particularly former principals as well to come and share their experiences.”

You can RSVP by clicking “Going” on the event’s Facebook page or by calling (03) 5446 8099.
