A special screening and Q&A
ONE of Australia’s finest actors, the much loved David Wenham is coming to Bendigo in February for a special Q&A screening of SPIT, the highly anticipated Australian comedy from the award-winning team behind Gettin’ Square, ahead of its cinema release on March 6, 2025.
Written by Gold Coast-based writer and lawyer and writer of Gettin’ Square Christopher Nyst, SPIT sees the return of beloved character Johnny (Spit) Spitieri, played by David Wenham who is embarking on a national Q&A screening tour with Bendigo being the first Victorian stop.
SPIT is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and also stars Helen Thomson, Gary Sweet, David Roberts, David Field, Arlo Green, Pallavi Sharda, Ayik Chut, Sam and Teagan Rybka (The Rybka Twins), Sofya Gollan, and Sami Afuni.
After 20 years on the run overseas, small-time ex-criminal slips back into Australia on a false passport only to find himself locked up in an Immigration Detention Centre with a massive target on his back as old enemies come looking for him, determined to settle old scores. As he struggles to stay one step ahead, the resourceful Spit finds new friends in detention, teaching them his version of mateship, and what it means to be truly Australian.
With a stellar career in film and television both in Australia and internationally, David Wenham has played dozens of characters, but it is Johnny Spitieri who he is most asked about when out and about, with people often quoting some of Johnny’s most iconic lines from the film.
The SPIT screening followed by a Q&A with David Wenham is at Village Bendigo on Tuesday 25 February, 6pm arrival for a 6.30pm screening of the film. ABC Breakfast Presenter Fiona Parker will host the evening. Spit opens in cinemas on March 6.
