THE inspirational true story of how Cadel Evans became the first and only Australian to win the Tour de France in 2011 will unfold at The Capital next week by way of a multi-award-winning stage production.

Co-created by and starring Australian-born, New York-based Connor Delves, the unique one-man show will see the actor, singer, producer and director pedaling for an astonishing 29 kilometres on the actual 2011 yellow BMC “Cadel Evans” SLR01 bike that Evans rode to victory in “Le Tour”.

Fresh from a sold-out, award-winning season at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe and sold-out seasons in both Geelong and Perth, it’s touted to be “a visceral account of the sacrifices, heartaches and sheer determination it takes to conquer cycling’s most prestigious prize”.

Delves’ physical performance, combined with vivid storytelling, will bring the epic race to life, including live commentary from the legendary “voice of the Tour de France,” Phil Liggett.

The play was apparently born from his deep personal connection with the sport – his parents owned a bike shop in Perth, his mother recently received a WA Sport Award for her service to triathlon, while his father competed in a mountain biking world cup alongside Evans in 1996.

“CADEL: Lungs on Legs is a gripping ride through the sacrifices, heartaches, and sheer determination it takes to conquer cycling’s ultimate prize,” he said.

“Cycling is in my blood and (this) brings together my passion for the sport with my theatrical career.”

Cadel Evans himself has also offered his full support, stating, “Connor’s vision for this show is bold and exciting.

“I’m deeply honoured that an Australian artist has been inspired to bring my story to life.”

CADEL: Lungs On Legs will be staged next Thursday 26 March at The Capital in View Street.
