LOVERS of the creative arts will be able to take an exclusive peek into the working lives of nearly forty artists during the Bendigo Open Studios 2024 weekend, which runs from today, Friday 11 October to Sunday 13 October.

Both contemporary and traditional disciplines will be showcased including painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, textiles, photography, jewellery, digital art, sculpture, ceramics and street art.

Participating artist and Open Studios committee member Frankie O said the idea of the event is to showcase the sheer diversity of local creatives and how they work on a day-to-day basis.

Sculptor Yvonne George’s studio can be found in the Village of Artisans at Bendigo Pottery.

“You’ll be able to see that there’s some artists that work out of shoeboxes and still have a very thriving practice,” she said.

“There’s other people who’ve got massive studios because they might work with steel or sculpture and (that’s) also engaging and exciting.”

O encouraged potential attendees to take a couple of hours before the event to sit down and study the list of artists involved to find out “what really excites them.”

“Go in with an open mind and go in ready to learn,” she said.

Ceramicist Felicity Burman will open her studio in Myers Flat to all for the weekend.

“You might want to book yourself into a workshop, you might be looking for some Christmas gift ideas, something unique and local.

“There’s so much happening on our doorstep and it’s worthwhile seeing, so go and say g’day and get to know these amazing people.”
