LIMITED tickets remain available for a spectacular 1980s tribute show, happening on Saturday night at Ulumbarra Theatre, that has to be witnessed to be believed.
Far from a cover band plonked on stage rolling out the standards, Forever 80s’ new show BACK TO THE 80s! features explosive stage production, retro-futuristic costumes and enough makeup to make Boy George blush.
Just returned from a two-week tour of Japan, former Bendigo resident and vocalist Richard Swanson, aka Blue Steel (who’ll be joined on stage by bandmates Misfit, PC Heartbreaker, Van Whalin’ and JB StiXx), said the group’s repertoire is extensive.
“We do everything from Journey, Cyndi Lauper, Def Leppard, Tina Turner, Bonnie Tyler, Laura Brannigan, Human League, Whitney Houston, Wham! and Depeche Mode, to Billy Idol, Eurythmics, Bon Jovi, The Pointer Sisters and the B52s, plus we’ve got some Australian surprises thrown in the mix as well,” he said.
“(The show) is basically two hours of non-stop bangers.
“’80s music is a transcendent genre, it connects with people of all ages. It’s very upbeat, feel-good music with massive ballads mixed in (and) there’s something for everyone.
“You’re going to hear all of your favourite songs (combined with) with songs you’ll never hear other bands even attempt to perform. Basically, you’re going to feel like you’re watching an ’80s show in the ’80s.
“You’re going to feel you’ve been transported back to that time.”
Forever 80s – BACK TO THE 80s! takes place on Saturday night, 10 May, at Ulumbarra Theatre.
