Blurbs’ Book Week concert a fitting finale
A CULT-favourite children’s band that only emerges from hibernation every Children’s Book Week is back for another year.
A planned tour of 13 primary schools will culminate in a free finale at Bendigo Library on Friday 23 August at 5.30pm.
The Blurbs will have a uniquely irreverent take on this year’s Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year finalists, with songs based on each title.
The books include That Bird Has Arms! by Jol and Kate Temple, Can You Teach a Fish to Climb a Tree? by Jane Godwin, Timeless by Kelly Canby and Eww Gross by Dan Marshall.
The Blurbs founder Min Miles said after writing and practising the show for many months to no audience, the band is looking forward to finally getting out and playing it live.
“You just don’t know until you get in front of the kids and you do something really silly and they lose their minds,” she said.
She said the group particularly loves the library show at the end of the week because the audience is usually an even split between parents and their kids.
“A lot of the jokes we put in there for ourselves or for the teachers, (so) it’s a really nice thing for adults to enjoy it just as much,” she said.
“It’s not something to take the kids to and put your sunnies on and have a sleep like my mum used to do at the movies!
“We’re going to entertain you and it’s something that you can enjoy with your kids on the same level.”
