Circus Oz to deliver relentless action
INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed contemporary circus troupe Circus Oz brings its latest production, Non Stop, to town this July with an eclectic ensemble of performers spanning six decades!
The one-hour show (no interval) is billed as a collision of comedy, clowning, acrobatics, skipping, bows and arrows, beauty, muscles, music, flying trapeze, juggling, slapstick, crazy antics and daredevilry that will leave audiences breathless, giggling, and energetic.
Production director and co-creator Nicci Wilks said the crux of the show was based on a visual concept she had.
“I like the idea of the acrobatic body being challenged, having problems to deal with along the way.
“So, everyone’s wearing dresses, which you wouldn’t normally wear for acrobatics.
“Now they’ve got something else to (navigate) – it makes it more interesting, it can be really beautiful but also really ugly, and I actually love that.
“As they say – comedy is a human in trouble, like someone slipping on a banana peel. That’s funny.”
Ms Wilks said the appeal of the show is that anyone can enjoy it.
“You can be five years old, or 105. It’s highly visual, you don’t have to speak the language, and there’s live music,” she said.
“Whether it’s your first date, you’re taking your grandparents out, or hanging with your teenage friends – everyone will have a great time.
“For one hour you’ll be on the edge of your seat, laughing, jaw on the (floor), it’s pure fun. It’s nonstop energy (and) it’ll be over before you know it.”
Non Stop by Circus Oz takes place at Ulumbarra Theatre on July 9. Head to the Gotix website for tickets.
