A RELAUNCHED Bendigo-based business that specialises in hands-on STEM-based learning for children is holding a one-day school holiday experience at Girton Grammar School for 7 to 12-year-olds.

Codergarten, the brainchild of local La Trobe University alumni and IT specialist Rushabh Shethia, was set up in 2016 with the aim of delivering integrated educational experiences to local kids.

The business paused in 2019 due to a combination of COVID and family matters but has recently returned, better and more imaginative than ever.

Shethia said Codergarten’s programs intentionally focus on how participants can connect theoretical concepts to the practical, real world.

“I love to talk with people to understand where is the gap between their current education and how we can complement that,” he said.

“How can we add a little bit of practicality for when they go back to school and they learn the same mathematics or logic or any of those things?

“It makes more sense and that’s where all our programs are right now.

“That’s it in a nutshell.”

He said participants will have the opportunity to discover the sequence of how computers think in a linear way as part of a series of activities throughout the day.

“Of course, now all our computers are multi-processors, but at the very fundamental level, they can only do one thing at a time,” he said.

“Each activity is half instructional and half exploratory, they’re fun and they’re meant for them to explore a different way of thinking.”

The Codergarten one-day school holiday program takes place at Girton Grammar School this Monday, 29 June from 8.30am to 3.30pm.
