ARTISTS from Donut Studios are using their talents to bring colour to Chancery Lane.

The project is supported by City of Greater Bendigo through their Temporary Public Art Program.

“DONUT Studios is a professional disability art studio based in Golden Square,” said team leader and artistic facilitator Stacey Ballard.

“We support artists with disabilities to explore their creativity, develop their skills, and share their work with the community.

“We focus on the process just as much as the finished artwork.

“We believe art is a powerful way to build confidence, connection and opportunities for our members.

“Every artist is supported to work in their own way and develop their unique creative voice.

“That’s what makes our community so special.”

The Chancery Lane mural is expected to be completed over the next few weeks.

“The mural in Chancery Lane and has been a great opportunity to add to the vibrancy and colour of the laneway,” said Ms Ballard.

“This mural is all about celebrating collaboration, spreading joy and giving our artists the opportunity to lead a big creative project from start to finish.

“Pete and Dave are our key artists who lead the project and have poured so much of themselves into the design, and it’s been amazing to see their ideas take shape on such a large scale.

“We wanted the artists to be involved at every step of the process, from brainstorming the elements, to choosing the colours, to finalising the layout.

“The finished mural will be a true reflection of their creativity and vision.

“Our creative facilitators have been there to support and champion the ideas of the artists and empower them to have as much control as possible.

“The final stage of the project invites the whole studio to contribute paste-up elements, so the mural really becomes a community artwork that celebrates everyone’s input.

“Other key artists that have supported this project include Josh, Sam and Gerard.

“This has been a great exercise for our artists to develop the concept and work out in the community to share their voices and ideas.”
