THE music of genre-bending icon David Bowie will be celebrated on Saturday 16 November when Ashes To Ashes: The David Bowie Experience show takes the stage at the Capital Theatre.

Also known as The Thin White Duke, Bowie released 27 studio albums over five decades and had many critically acclaimed hits including Space Oddity, Fame, Rebel Rebel, Let’s Dance and China Girl.

He also collaborated with Queen to record Under Pressure – widely regarded as one of the greatest rock songs of all time – and Mick Jagger to record Dancing in the Street, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US in 1985.

The David Bowie Experience’s lead vocalist Paul Matthews said his first exposure to the legendary songwriter came from being brought up on what his parents were listening to.

“I was fortunate enough to have a pretty young mum who was into a lot of the music that was around at the time, so it’s part of my DNA,” he said.

“Growing up with it and loving his music – I’ve always emulated a little bit of Bowie [and] it seems to come naturally to me without drawing on any sort of ego.”

He said the Bendigo audience can expect a performance of “infectious joy” from the band.

“We have so much fun doing it, and what’s shared between all of us on stage rubs off throughout the crowd. I can’t recommend it highly enough,” he said.

Tickets to the show are available on the Gotix website.
