June 23, 2021 BY

There’s a lot going on at the Port of Echuca, find out more at the Discovery Centre.

Visit us in the Port of Echuca and experience Echuca/Moama’s rich history and fantastic tales of the bustling river trade.

Centred around the nationally Heritage-listed Echuca Wharf, the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre provides visitors the opportunity to travel the path of our past river pioneers.

With active steam engines, paddle steamer wrecks, a restored sawmill, kids activities and an interactive indoors museum – there is plenty to see and do for all ages.

You can even view the oldest wooden-hulled paddle steamer in the world – The PS Adelaide – docked at the Echuca Wharf.

Admission to the Discovery Centre and Echuca Wharf is now free of charge for all visitors.

Want to get to know our history a bit more? Join one of the daily walking tours of the Port of Echuca. The tour guides at the Discovery Centre will set the scene and tell you stories of Echuca’s past.

The entertaining tours run for an hour at 11.30am and 1.30pm every day (except 25 December).

Take a stroll back into Murray Esplanade – the main street of the Port Precinct – and you will find a great selection of pubs and cafes, horse ad cart rides, lost trades demonstrations, a movie house and penny arcade, a Whistlestop Studio Gallery, a Holden museum and even an antique photographer.

Of course, you can’t visit Echuca without travelling along the Murray River on one of our iconic paddle steamers.

We are home to the largest operating fleet of paddle steamers in Australia, with a number of vessels that have over 100 years of history.

Echuca Paddlesteamers and Murray River Paddlesteamers run daily river cruises, with a whole range of different options – including standard one-hour cruises, lunch cruises, and evening cruises.

When looking for a bite to eat or a great coffee, there are endless options in Echuca-Moama.

We have restaurants that rival Melbourne’s sensational tastes, and cafes that offer more delicious brunch options than any one person needs. Whether you’re a Parmi person or an almond milk latte lover, we’ve got you covered.

After dinner, it’s time to discover the Port Precinct by nightfall on the Discovery Centre’s Port After Dark lantern tour.

This one-hour tour explores the Port of Echuca, daring to walk alongside the spirits of the Murray River.

Exposing Echuca’s darkest secrets and tragic murders, this evening tour is not to be missed. That is, if you’re over 12 years of age and aren’t afraid to meet the Lady in Blue.

Whether you’re looking for leisure activities, historical exploration, sporting fun or just some great food & wine – the Port of Echuca and surrounds has plenty to offer.
