Final fundraising jazz concert at Huntly
RAGLAN Street Jazz will host its seventh and final concert at the Huntly Memorial Hall on Sunday, May 5. Billed as ‘The Last March of the Bobcats’, the concert will feature the Maryborough Traditional Jazz Ensemble and will take place from 1pm to 4pm.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Bendigo Foodshare. Tickets are $20 and are available by phoning 0438 323 454 or emailing [email protected].
Raglan Street Jazz convenor Bill Knight said the most recent concert in October last year had been expected to be the last, but following a visit from a Bendigo Foodshare representative to White Hills Probus Club – out of which Raglan Street Jazz grew – it was decided to arrange one more.
“We thought we’d like to run a concert for Foodshare,” Mr Knight said. “The funds we raise we donate to charity,” he said, adding that among beneficiaries in the past had been cancer research, buying swags for the homeless, and Rochester health services.
Mr Knight said the concert was titled ‘The Last March of the Bobcats’ because the Maryborough band always played the jazz staple March of the Bobcats, and this would be the final Raglan Street Jazz show.
Formed in 2018 by jazz enthusiasts within the White Hills Probus Club, Raglan Street Jazz has hosted six concerts, all of which have been organised and run by volunteers.
