Generations to unite at Mercy Bethlehem
PARENTS and carers are invited to bring their kids to Mercy Health Bethlehem Home for the Aged in Golden Square on Wednesday 2 October for its next intergenerational music session.
Children will have the chance to sing and dance with some of the centre’s elderly residents.
The session will be helped along by a facilitator/entertainer from Hey Dee Ho Educational Services and is designed to entertain and engage children and residents while encouraging them to interact with one another.
Bethlehem’s lifestyle coordinator Sarah Nind said the home had worked with Hey Dee Ho for several years prior to COVID, and after a considerable break the program has returned.
“The residents love it,” she said. “They love to see the little children and babies and engage with other family members as well. It gives them something to smile about.
“They might not often see their grandchildren or their great-grandchildren because a lot of them are interstate, so they really enjoy meeting the younger people.
“I think it’s good for children to see how they can connect with a different generation and the residents can reflect on their past experiences. It’s really uplifting and you can see how happy it makes them.”
Visitors are asked to complete a RAT test prior to attending the event and to stay home if they’re unwell.
Participation in the event is free, however attendees need to book a ticket via Trybooking per adult and child aged over 12 months.
