FINAL preparations are underway for the Bendigo Theatre Company’s feature production for 2024, the classic 1930s New York City-inspired musical Guys and Dolls, with its premiere just weeks away.

The production stars Zoe Czempinski as devout and principled mission worker Sarah Brown, Dan Sexton as the suave gambler Sky Masterson, Luke Oliver as fellow gambler Nathan Detroit and Emma Kelly as nightclub singer Miss Adelaide.

The show’s director Claire Sexton said as the opening night approaches, and after hundreds upon hundreds of volunteer hours contributed, the cast and crew are “ready to go.”

“The planning started last year,” she said. “The people doing the sets and props quite often are working until midnight or later painting.

“Then the creative team such as myself, the hours that we’ve done behind the scenes, it takes a lot of time.

“We’ve been running the show straight through, so we’re now putting the finishing touches on it, perfecting the dance steps and making it a professional performance.”

She said the company would love to fill the Ulumbarra Theatre over the production’s four-day run.

“It’s a show that’s got something for everybody. Younger people will love the colour and the glitz and the glam and the dancing, and then the storyline is more aimed at the older audience members,” Sexton said.

Bendigo Theatre Company’s Guys and Dolls runs from Thursday 19 September to Sunday 22 September at Ulumbarra Theatre, with an afternoon and evening performance on the Saturday.

Tickets are available on the Gotix website.
