SISTERS Grace and Skye Larson will hold a fundraiser for their charity The Sisterhood Project at the Redesdale Hall on Saturday 30 November.

The event, which will run from 11am to 1pm, will be a rustic Italian cuisine class and will be led by local identity and former Kyneton Hotel publican Marisa Leahy.

Grace, who lives in Mia Mia and founded the charity with Skye in 2022, and still casually works as a paediatric intensive care nurse at The Royal Children’s Hospital.

She said the $50-per-person cost to participate in the cuisine class would pay for one person to participate in an infant and child first aid course.

The purpose of the courses, and The Sisterhood Project’s reason for existing, is to help parents and carers increase the survival of children following serious accidents and injuries.

“Fifty dollars pays for one person to attend a course,” Grace said. “So by coming along and participating you’re funding a person to attend a baby and child first aid course.”

She said people who participated in a course also received health literacy about child illnesses, when to go to a hospital or a GP, and other information.

Ms Leahy, who hails from the Abruzzo region in Italy, will be teaching the techniques of making food from her home village. She will create an Italian lunch, matched with local wine donated by Mia Valley Estate.

Grace said Ms Leahy had run similar cooking classes before, and they had been popular.

“My local community – which is really only just 300 people, it’s a very small community – has shown us a huge amount of support,” Grace said.

“[It’s a] very small community but very kind-hearted and supportive of what the charity is doing.”

The Sisterhood Project is funding courses in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia, but Grace said plans were underway to extend the project’s reach to every other state and territory from next year.

The ticket price covers all supplies, food and drinks. They can be booked at thesisterhoodproject.com.au.
