Lewis Carroll classic
DON’T be late for this very important date!
A special production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is on stage this weekend at the Capital Theatre.
Uncertain Curtain, a local theatre group that gives people who identify as neurodivergent the opportunity to develop skills and confidence through performing, is bringing the Lewis Carroll story to life.
In order to do this, the group has revamped traditional audition, rehearsal and performance approaches so as to promote a neurodivergent-friendly atmosphere.
For example, their rehearsal period has been longer, with shorter individual sessions of two hours, twice weekly.
“We come in and it’s not just about rehearsing the play, it’s also about learning about the characters and character development,” group founder Sarah-Jane Fawcett explained.
“In that way we’re also learning about ourselves and we’re developing along with the characters and with each other.”
Fawcett said the audiences at this weekend’s performances can expect to see the cast “having fun playing into the nonsense” of the iconic scenes and characters of Alice in Wonderland.
“I hope that their sense of enjoyment is infectious,” she said. “It’s funny, it’s exciting, there’s a little bit of a mystery to solve as to who stole the Queen of Hearts’ tarts, and things like that.
“I’m really hoping that not only will people find it magical and fantastical and just fun, but maybe also learn how other people see the world around them as well.”
Catch Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland this very weekend at the Capital Theatre at 6pm on Saturday 22 June or at 2pm on Sunday 23 June.
