Local artists challenged to emulate Frida
LOCAL artists and creatives have been invited to submit an expression of interest for a new program – Eat. Drink. Art. – for an opportunity to exhibit their work in a Bendigo cafe or restaurant.
The program will be launched during Bendigo Art Gallery’s Frida Kahlo: In her own image exhibition which opens next March.
If selected, artists will be required to include one signature piece that relates to the theme of ‘Fiesta Bendigo’ alongside their own original works, which will be displayed in a selected local business from Saturday 15 March next year until Monday 12 May.
City of Greater Bendigo Creative City Officer Mandy Field said the program represents an opportunity for artists to exhibit their work during the gallery’s international blockbuster exhibition.
“The program gives local artists the chance to increase their profile, exposure, and the opportunity to generate sales,” she said.
“Bendigo is a UNESCO Creative City and Region of Gastronomy, and involving local eateries aligns the Eat. Drink. Art. program with the UNESCO brand.
“Greater Bendigo continues to build a strong reputation for its public art, street art and thriving arts and creative industries.”
The successful artists will be notified at the end of January and their works will be installed between 10 and 14 March next year.
Installation and removal of the artwork, sales enquiries and insurance will be the responsibility of participating artists.
Expressions of interest close at 5pm on Monday 20 January.
