REHEARSALS for Bendigo Theatre Company’s blockbuster School of Rock The Musical are approaching their peak just days before the production’s premiere on Thursday 18 September.
The production’s debut will come with a certain sense of pride and relief for the theatre company after a rollercoaster ride of emotions over the past few months.
Several essential items for the show were stolen from its headquarters and rehearsal space in an early-August setback, before the organisation enthusiastically received the Not-for-profit Award at the Be.Bendigo Business Excellence Awards later that month.
One local family – the Parrys – are particularly looking forward to the show’s four-day run, with mother Anna and her two children, Aimee (year 12) and Sam (year 10) featuring as part of the cast.
“We’ve all been involved in different things before, but this is the first time we’re sharing the stage,” Anna Parry said.
“It’s something really special to be able to do this together.”
For Sam, a passionate guitarist who first picked up the instrument during high school, School of Rock is the perfect chance to combine his love of music and performance.
Aimee, in her final year of school, is embracing the opportunity to perform alongside her family while balancing studies and her passion for drama.
Bendigo Theatre Company’s School of Rock promises a night of infectious energy, iconic songs, and heartfelt moments – both on and off the stage.
The production is a true community effort, with local volunteers, musicians, cast members and their families all pitching in to rehearse, build and paint sets, sew costumes and learn the songs and choreography.
