FAST-rising local heavy rock/metal band Lost In The Past is on a hot streak.
Its debut single, released last August – That’s That – has already racked up almost 10,000 streams on Spotify across more than 60 countries.
Lead singer and guitarist Aaron Pearce, who names Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down and AC/DC as influences, said the original lineup first got together after jamming at school in 2024.
“We decided to join the school talent show, so we started playing some songs and needed to come up with a name,” he said.
“I went through Spotify and picked a couple of songs that I really liked and pulled the name together out of multiple different (titles) – that’s how Lost in the Past was formed.”
The band has since evolved, with Riley Hayes joining on drums in July 2025 and Hayden Becker on rhythm guitar in December.
Describing the fledgling group’s writing process, Pearce said he develops the lyrics and everything else by himself.
“Usually I sit down and try to dedicate a couple of hours to getting something down,” he said.
“I start off with the guitar and the instrumental side of things and then add lyrics over the top – that’s how it’s been for the last few songs.”
With the band’s second single – Seat by the Fire – due for release on Wednesday 28 January, Pearce said the ultimate goal is making albums and going on tour as a full-time pursuit.
“That’s 100 per cent the dream,” he said. “It’s hard to make it in the music scene.
“Nothing’s promised and there’s a lot of work (to do), but that’s the end goal.”
Lost in the Past upcoming performances include Australia Day at Lake Weeroona, The American in Echuca on Friday 13 February, Creatures of Habit in Fitzroy on Wednesday 18 February, and back at The Vine on Saturday 21 February.
