Musos invited to Golden jam
SPOTS are scarce for an upcoming musical get together aimed at (but not limited to) the over-sixties on a property in Golden Gully.
Golden Gully Jam Sessions are held regularly throughout the year involving small groups of four or five at organiser Patrick Cox’s premises, and the free Summer Gathering on Monday 2 December is poised to showcase the various groups’ talents.
Created more than five years ago by Mr Cox, the small-group sessions give people the opportunity to make music and join with others to “just play”.
“We’ve got groups of ordinary people joining in song, for sometimes the first time, and it’s common to hear them say that it has put a skip in their step when they leave,” Mr Cox said.
“Having fun is paramount. We’re not out to rock the world and play in stadiums, or to do a sensational Hendrix riff, but we often get to the point where it all comes together and we can go from feeling that we’re just Stayin’ Alive to Walking On Sunshine, to quote a couple of songs that we’ve done.”
Attendees at the December gathering can expect to hear rock, blues, RnB and folk music played in a true “child-like sense”.
“I don’t want to fill arenas with audiences, but rather give 20 or so people the experience of music in a relaxed atmosphere, just playing together,” Mr Cox said.
The Golden Gully jam sessions Summer Gathering takes place on Monday 2 December from 1 to 5pm.
The showcase is free to attend but limited to 20 people. For further information or to register interest in participating, email [email protected]
