A SLIGHTLY foreboding new exhibition at the Living Arts Space in Pall Mall portrays the unlikely scenario of Bendigo being watched from above by extraterrestrial beings.

Featuring six paintings on canvas by local artist Chris Duffy, vintage local business advertising signs and familiar local landmarks are also depicted in the works.

Duffy said he created a Bendigo “frozen in time” for his latest showcase.

“Imagine a Bendigo unlike the one you’ve ever known, as if the world has hit pause during an apocalypse,” he said.

“The streets are a cinematic mid-century dreamscape, while alien passengers in UFOs gaze down at a city seemingly abandoned during its daily rhythm.

“Astro Bendigo will transport visitors to a whimsical world of humour, and nostalgia with a futuristic twist.”

Visitor services lead Liam Daniels said Astro Bendigo was fuelled by the artist’s extraordinary talent for pop art and his wild imagination.

“The art is so vibrant and engaging with a unique concept that stops you in your tracks. It captures the essence of Bendigo’s unique charm and its potential cosmic future,” he said.

“(It’s) a great example of how the (gallery) provides a great platform for local artists to create and exhibit ambitious works, enabling residents and visitors to enjoy the stunning results for free.”

Astro Bendigo is on until Sunday April 20 at the Living Arts Space, open daily from 9am to 4.30pm, at 51-67 Pall Mall.
