BENDIGO’S View Street arts precinct has welcomed another top-notch restaurant with the opening of Terrae on the ground floor of boutique accommodation venue Hotel Ernest.

Offering modern European cuisine, the restaurant is situated within the region’s oldest surviving bank – the Commercial Bank of Sydney, built in 1863.

Many locals would remember the building as containing the former Rocks on Rosalind venue.

Tim Foster, culinary director of parent company Goldfields Hospitality Group and the previous owner of Source Dining in Kyneton and the Gold Mines Hotel in Marong Road, said the new restaurant has been a long time coming.

“Being that Bendigo is the City of Gastronomy and tourists are visiting this amazing city, we wanted a place that showcased the best of what Bendigo can offer,” he said.

He said the menu reflects the changing seasons, highlighting the very best local and regional produce.

“Much of (it) comes from the local region, as well as the restaurant’s 25-acre farm just out of Bendigo,” Mr Foster said.

“We have some amazing producers in the region and we want our menu and story behind each dish or glass of wine to showcase the very best of regional Victoria.”

Mr Foster said the team at Terrae is committed to “genuine, old-school hospitality”.

“By paying attention to the smallest service details, preparing our dishes with passion, and cooking with respectful acknowledgement of those who have taught and inspired us, we trust our guests will leave our venues feeling well-loved and cared for,” he said.

Terrae is located at 10/12 View Street and is open seven days a week from 11.30am, with dinner service not available on Sundays.
