Old to meet new at Capital
A local production company formed to create “world-class music experiences in Bendigo’s unique performance spaces” will present its first ever show as part of the Capital Theatre’s 150th Anniversary celebrations.
The company, Bendigo Fine Music, is the brainchild of world-renowned musician Thomas Heywood, and its debut recital – A Capital Pair – will star ARIA award-winning pianist Tamara-Anna Cislowska and our very own concert cellist Luke Severn.
The multi-talented Mr Severn, who is also the artistic director and principal conductor of Bendigo Symphony Orchestra, said the production’s staging during the anniversary combines “something starting, and celebrating something old”.
“The idea is that hopefully one day we’ll work up to a festival or a myriad of different events, but this recital that Tamara and myself are doing is kicking everything off.”
Mr Severn said the performance will involve the pair alternating between cello-centred repertoire as a duo and Ms Cislowska playing solos too.
“There’s a lovely mix of composers in there, including some Schumann, some Chopin, and some Debussy.”
“Then we’re going to finish with some new works by an Australian composer who’s a friend of ours, Elena Kats-Chernin.”
“All the music on the program is really lovely to listen to. It’s a collection of our favourites, really, so I’d highly recommend it, whether you’re a seasoned concertgoer or it’s your first time.”
The Capital 150th Anniversary – Bendigo Fine Music presents A Capital Pair takes place on Sunday 27 October at the Capital Theatre.
