AWARD winning country music singer Melinda Schneider is heading to Bendigo next week to pay tribute to Doris Day.

A Farewell to Doris is on Tuesday 7 May at the Capital and will celebrate Day’s hits including Que Sera, Sera, Sentimental Journey, Everybody Loves a Lover and Secret Love as well as music from her movies.

“I think people will reminisce on all the songs, people love the songs from all of her different films,” said Schneider.

“I’m singing a whole cross section of songs from her whole career and I’m telling stories about her life.”

Throughout her career, Schneider has recorded two albums of Day’s songs and co-written and stared in a show based on the American’s life.

Schneider’s love of Day started when she saw Calamity Jane when she was eight years old.

“I just fell in love with her with that character,” said Shneider.

“I thought she was everything a women could be, she was a tomboy in that film, she could shoot as well as any man and she was also gorgeous.

“We all wanted to be Doris’ best friend I think.”

Schneider said she hopes attendees can get lost in enjoying the music.

“I hope it takes people back to simpler times,” she said.

“I think people are having a hard time in the world at the moment and anything where they can go and escape and experience some joy, I think is important.”
