THE Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre has invited cancer patients from Bendigo and the Lodden Mallee to a Patient Parliament on 31 October at Bendigo Health to provide comment about their care.

The information will be used to inform the programs, services and strategies at Peter Mac’s Bendigo campus within Bendigo Health’s main facility.

James Fowler, Peter Mac’s deputy director – patient experience and wellbeing, said the community event is an opportunity for patients and families to share their experiences at the facility as a patient.

“This is the first time we’ve held a Patient Parliament in Bendigo and we’re very excited to hear from patients about what matters most to them when it comes to their cancer treatment,” he said.

“The Patient Parliament is a chance for patients, families and carers to share ideas, concerns and solutions in an open environment.”

“This is an opportunity for people to have their say about the care they or their loved ones receive.”

Mr Fowler said his organisation is always looking at better ways of doing things and knows that the most can be learned from the people who receive care, whether they are patients, carers or family members.

“Some people might have provided feedback in this type of forum before and others might be looking to do this for the first time, but we want to hear from as many patients as possible to understand their perspectives,” he said.
