Pub rock icons on their way

ONE of Australia’s most recognisable pub rock bands from the 80s are about to embark on their first ever regional Victorian tour, stopping off at the Golden Vine Hotel on Friday 12 July.

The Radiators formed in Western Sydney in 1978 and have released several gold and platinum albums, including Feel the Heat (1980), Up for Grabs (1981) and Scream of the Real (1983).

They’re known as one of the country’s hardest working bands, with almost 6000 gigs up their sleeves.

 

Bass player Geoff Turner, who is also one of the group’s founding members, said they’ve performed over the years with “everyone.”

“Whether in support mode in the early days or on multiple bills, we’ve played with them all,” he said.

“From AC/DC, we supported them just before they went off to England, to Cold Chisel and the Angels, INXS – they were supporting us for a little while – Rose Tattoo and Split Enz.”

He said punters at the Bendigo show can expect to see a slice of Aussie 80s music history, a “living museum.”

“We’re going to be bringing the gold to Bendigo – all the classics and crowd favourites. We’re not going to bore them or bog them down with stuff that they might not know,” Turner said.

“If you’ve never seen us, give us a go. You might have preconceived ideas or no idea at all, (so) come and have a look and make up your own mind.”
