VETERAN US bubblegum-punk band Good Charlotte will visit Bendigo next February as part of its Motel Du Cap World Tour, it’s been announced.
The coup looks to have been made possible by the State Government’s $38 million Regional Event Fund and adds to other funded events including Comedy in the Vines, OK Rochester, the Mildura Fringe Festival and Sunnyside Ballarat.
It will be one of the band’s first shows in Australia in almost a decade and celebrates the release of their highly-anticipated eighth studio album.
Fronted by twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden, Good Charlotte recorded hits including Little Things and Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous in the early 2000s.
They won best single for the latter at the 2003 at the Kerrang! Awards.
“Australia is such a special place to Good Charlotte and to me personally, it feels like a home away from home in many ways, and we can’t wait to head back there for some big shows,” Joel Madden said.
“It’s been far too long since we’ve spent time with our Aussie fans, we’re all in for a big treat.”
Premier Jacinta Allan said fans will want to be in Bendigo to see “these rock icons” take the stage to perform some of their biggest hits.
“Importantly, this gig will also support our local cafes, restaurants and accommodation providers,” she said.
Good Charlotte, supported by Yellowcard and Kisschasy, perform at the Bendigo Racecourse on Saturday 21 February.
