THE lineup for Victoria’s Pride – a summer-long celebration of LGBTIQA+ communities – has been announced, which to the particular interest of local readers includes a trans and gender diverse filmmaking showcase in Bendigo and Castlemaine taking place in November.

The Bendigo/Castlemaine event, Playback: TGDTakes on Identity and Industry, is being organised by Women in Film and Television VIC, a not-for-profit organisation which has promoted the participation and profile of women and gender-diverse people working in the screen industries for over 35 years.

Victoria’s Pride is funded under the Regional Activation Program, delivered by Midsumma in partnership with the State Government, with tens of thousands of people expected to join events and activities across the state in the coming months.

Other highlights include the Thursgay Bellarine Pride Fest, a celebration featuring local DJs, drag artists, emerging performers and market stalls.

Ballarat will also create Queer-ways: Retracing Ballarat’s Queer Footprints Mural, a permanent tribute to Ballarat’s LGBTIQA+ history.

“Now more than ever we need to continue to strengthen and celebrate our inclusive society, helping us proudly remain one of the most LGBTIQA+ friendly states in the world,” Minister for Equality Vicki Ward said.

“These events bring communities together, showcasing the pride, importance and talents of LGBTIQA+ people across our regions.”

Midsumma Festival CEO and creative director Karen Bryant added that she was thrilled to see “so many creative and bold projects coming to life across Victoria”.
