FLEDGLING Bendigo melodic alt-rock act Earth Cadet are about to embark on their first Victorian tour to promote their debut EP, Tales From The End.

They’ll be playing at the iconic Bergy Bandroom in Coburg on Thursday 18 July, Medusa Bar in Geelong on Friday 19 July, before returning to their home base at Bendigo Records on Saturday 20 July.

The band’s singer-songwriter and guitarist Sam Edmonds said the record is made up of different “tales from the end,” from different points of views of different characters.

“Sometimes I’m the character,” he explained. “Our opening track, Silhouette, is a bit about stage fright and my experience with it.

“The terror of playing your art in front of other people is scary, and I loved writing about that.”

Edmonds said his writing process for the EP often simply started with a guitar riff or a chord structure.

Earth Cadet have big things planned.

“I might have a song title or a character that I want to explore. Typically it’ll be around, what is that character doing in a day or two days?” he said.

“I try not to spend too long on anything. If it comes together quickly, I feel like it’s a given. If I’m having to bang my head against the wall to try to get it written, that’s normally a no-go.”

Edmonds said the Bendigo show is a great chance for locals to “be somebody that sees that band before they take off.”

“I know we’re going to be doing some big things and there’s a lot planned, so you can be that man or woman that in 30 years’ time can say they saw Earth Cadet before they were famous,” he said.
