A BELOVED Academy Award-winning animated fantasy comedy film released almost 25 years ago will spectacularly come to life on Ulumbarra’s stage in the coming weeks.
Shrek The Musical promises a fun-filled, two-hour long tribute to the original movie, featuring spectacular sets, glorious costumes and an engaging cast of larger-than-life characters.
Showcase Entertainment Group’s Layton Lillas, the producer of the show, said it’s the first time Shrek The Musical will tour regional Victoria.
“We’ve been around New Zealand, we’ve been to Saudi Arabia and a couple of the cities there, plus Kuwait and Dubai, and here we are,” he said.
“Ulumbarra is a fascinating venue to visit – the local council’s done a wonderful job of making it an inviting place to go.
“It allows us to stage shows like this that generally need big capacities and we’re so grateful that the old jail was turned into this wonderful theatre.”
Mr Lillas encouraged locals to ditch the summer-long repeats on television and take a comfy seat at one of the three shows happening between Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 January
“In a world of AI, theatre is one of the purest forms of entertainment, coming in and watching great talent on a stage,” he said.
“We’ve assembled a cast of amazing professional actors, dancers and singers who’ve been plying their trade around the circuits of Australasia for many years who will come together to put on an amazing show.
“It means a lot to us to be able to visit regional venues and bring a full Broadway musical with all the bells and whistles that five years ago only came to Melbourne.”
Shrek The Musical will be performed at Ulumbarra Theatre on Tuesday 16 January (6.30pm) and Wednesday 17 January (10.30am and 2.30pm).
