GEM collectors and hobbyists alike, plus anyone interested

in learning more about gemstones, crystals, minerals and handmade Sterling silver jewellery, should look no further than the Bendigo Gem Club’s 44th annual Expo, which takes place over the weekend of 15 and 16 February.

Held at the Bendigo Showgrounds, highlights include showcase displays with lapidary and silverwork demonstrations by club members, member stalls plus a chance to win handcrafted raffle prizes.

Longtime club member and the expo’s coordinator Andie Downing said overall it’s a family-friendly event that’s educational but still a lot of fun.

“There’s a lot to do and see for everyone,” she said.

“(It) showcases what we do at the club, where people can talk to members, learn how to cut and polish stones, and learn about rocks, minerals, and how to make sterling silver jewellery, including using their own cut stones.”

She said the two-day event attracts stallholders from across Australia.

“We’ve built a strong reputation and are definitely one of the largest not-for-profit gem shows in Victoria.”

Kids will be more than catered for with activities such as gem sifting, gemstone bracelet making and a lucky dip.

“We focus on kids’ activities as they’re really interested in rocks and parents love bringing them,” she said.

“It’s an inclusive experience for all ages, even the really little ones.”

The Bendigo Gem Club Expo will rock on between Saturday 15 February and Sunday 16 February from 10am.
