FOR those seeking family-friendly, bang-for-buck activities this weekend, the Rotary Club of Bendigo’s Easter Art Show is back, with $10 all-day entry for adults and kids admitted free.

This year, just under 700 artworks have been registered, with around half from Bendigo and surrounds and the rest from other parts of regional Victoria, as well as from Melbourne and interstate.

Rotary Bendigo will take 25 per cent of any sales, which will go towards many of its youth, community and international projects.

Past winner Terry Jervis has also donated a watercolour this year, entitled North Harcourt, which will be offered up as first prize in the Show’s raffle.

The event’s coordinator of 15 years Brian Figg said it’s the quality and diversity of what’s on display that’s forged its stellar reputation.

“People are amazed when they come in and walk around – they’ve got to walk around again because it’s really hard to take it all in, there’s just so many different beautifully presented and showcased things to see,” he said.

“The overall quality is also evidenced by the strong selling rate, at around 20 per cent – it might not sound much, but that’s extremely strong for any art show.”

He said due to the current circumstances, he and fellow organisers are hoping any drop in sales will be balanced with a few extra punters visiting during the weekend.

“While we’re quite excited about having a very positive and successful show, we’re hoping to get as many people as we can through the doors,” Figg said.

“It’d be nice to see some new people come in to have a look – it’s a great way to spend a few hours moseying around.”

The Rotary Club of Bendigo’s Easter Art Show takes place this long weekend, from today until Monday 6 April at the Bendigo Town Hall.
