SINGER-SONGWRITER Sherri Parry’s second album in eight months has arrived.

A launch party for the LP, When It Comes To Love, is happening tomorrow night at the revitalised Black Swan Hotel, with special guest, acoustic indie pop artist Kalo Davis also on the bill.

Parry said a light and easy affair will match her new album’s themes of childlike joy, elation and 80s reminiscing.

“I think with the state of the world right now, tomorrow night is going to be a little blip of hope and warmth and love,” she said.

“Everything that we have planned, the whole idea is to make you feel warm and fuzzy, calm, relaxed, excited, energized by the setting, and propelled further into that with the music.

“There’s going to be disco balls, there’s going to be glittery stars, there’s not going to be this seriousness in the air – that’s not the goal.

“You’re going to dance with your friends and tell them you love them at least 10 times throughout the night.”

Parry said the record’s intentional 80s aesthetic was a lot of fun to delve into.

“It was a simpler time perhaps, and the world’s pretty crazy right now,” she said.

“So, hopefully when you listen to it, you feel that nostalgia and you feel that joy.

“There’s a lot of synths and a lot of the influences were Prince and Duran Duran – there’s some ELO in there as well.

“There was a lot of weight that came with (previous album) Mosquito and making When It Comes To Love alleviated that a little bit – we’re just making poppy love songs that make us feel really good and we want to make the listener feel good too.”

She said the launch venue was chosen for sentimental reasons.

“The Black Swan is one of the first places that I ever performed at as a kid, I was only 12 or 13,” Parry said.

“It’s all going to be love music and we’re going to sound fantastic and you’re going to feel great.”

When it comes to love, the album launch takes place tomorrow night, Saturday 23 May at the Black Swan Hotel in McCrae Street.
