THOSE with a penchant for online role-playing games will have a chance to get off screen and in person at two come and try events for the classic Dungeons and Dragons tabletop fantasy board game.

The Bendigo Library sessions will be hosted by long-time dungeon master and Bendigo local Thomas Moore, who said anyone interested is encouraged to show up and play in a “short, simple adventure” using the game’s 5th Edition rules.

“There is nothing else you’d need to do,” he said. “The Library and I are supplying dice, premade character sheets, and I will have my extensive and heavy personal library of Dungeons and Dragons books with me.

“Show up, pick one of the ten premade characters, and have a go.”

Speaking from experience, Mr Moore said Dungeons and Dragons, and tabletop role-playing games in general, as well as the social aspect can provide numerous personal benefits.

“Tabletop games helped me to be a better storyteller, helped me to be a better communicator, planner, and to gain a better understanding of who I am as a person, how I react under pressure, how I tend to behave around people who want or need my help,” he said.

“It has helped friends come to terms with their sexuality or gender identity, helped people who struggle to make themselves understood, be more communicative and more courageous.

“But most of all, it’s really, really fun.”

Come and try: Dungeons and Dragons events take place at the Bendigo Library on Thursday, 22 September and Thursday, 29 September. Reserve your spot via bit.ly/3eIEKyY.
