A BENDIGO musician has embraced the wave of artificial intelligence by using the technology to create a music video for a track on his current album.

Produced under his stage name of Mystic Park, Shann Lions’ track Silver Linings from his current album of the same title was shot in Bendigo and Castlemaine and AI-edited by Dave Hansen.

Lions said he sees the work as different types of art and that he has future projects in the works which are different from the “cosmic country” vibe of this one.

“It has theatrical elements and visuals and different other things because there is this whole thing around space and aliens and stuff, I suppose it’s a bit theatre and maybe art, not only music,” he said.

“It’s more of an art-type thing, same as the AI video, incorporating different art elements.

“When you go to a gallery and see something, it might on be there for a short window of time, and then it disappears, and that’s what I want it to replicate.

“I’ll still do Mystic Park, but it will be maybe a couple of years away before that has a new evolution and comes out.”

Don’t be mistaken for thinking Lions is planning a hiatus from music in the interim though, as he said he’s got a group currently working on a three-piece punk project set to be recorded in October with a band called Relays.

Lions said draws inspiration from artists like John Coltrane, Wu-Tang Clan, and Dirty Three and his favourite track off his current album was Wall Of Ice due to the spontaneous way it was created.

“The second half of the song I just wrote on the spot,” he said. “That really makes that song, and it really made the record.

“I think it was just one of those moments that I think very fondly about.”

Mystic Park is currently on tour performing with a full band that played at Handlebar in Bendigo last Saturday, with several shows ahead including Taproom in Castlemaine on 16 July, and at the Golden Vine Hotel in Bendigo on 19 August.
