THE Bendigo Women’s Shed are planning a bake sale this weekend to raise more money to kick start their community organisation.

Chairperson Prue Clarke said the group are aiming to raise $1000, with an array of treats set to be provided including cakes, biscuits and slices.

“We’ve got so many donations of goodies, the ladies are all dropping them off the day before to the Shed,” she said.

“I thought it’s something that we already know how to do, why not try to get some money together from that?

“There’s a couple of ladies that are going to donate ingredients or a Woolworths voucher for somebody to buy the ingredients so that they feel like they’re contributing because they can’t cook or for whatever reason they’re unable to.”

If the team hit their fundraising mark at the bake sale and again at a Bunnings sausage sizzle scheduled for late October, Ms Clarke said the Women’s Shed could start planning workshops.

“I’d like to do one to begin with where everybody brings something no bigger than a chair that they’d like to refurbish,” she said.

“We were going to do a crochet workshop as well,” she said. “I have found that there’s a lot of women that want to learn these crafts that other ladies can do.”

Planning and membership subcommittees are also trying to organise a future open day to share the shed with more members of the public.

“We’re trying to decide on a date at the moment. I was hoping November but being in COVID again, we’ve had to take a step back,” Ms Clarke said.

The bake sale will be held this Saturday, 2 October from 9am at the southern end of Bendigo Marketplace, near the Skechers shop.
