Bendigo, Heathcote up for top town honours
BENDIGO and Heathcote have been shortlisted as finalists in this year’s TAC Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards, and the community is being asked to cast a supporting vote.
Bendigo has been named in the regional town category and Heathcote in the small regional town category.
The City of Greater Bendigo’s acting manager of tourism and major events, Glenn Harvey, said it was great news for Bendigo and Heathcote to be again named finalists in the awards led by the Victorian Tourism Industry Council.
He said the broader region offers fantastic visitor experiences and has a reputation for its food and beverage offerings.
“It has been a big 12 months for our tourism industry with new events such as the Paris exhibition at Bendigo Art Gallery and Meatstock, a new Bendigo Airport Terminal opening, upgraded cellar doors in Heathcote, and new tours launched by Dumawul.
“We have a dedicated and pasionate tourism industry including attractions, accommodation, retail and hospitality providers that are proud to offer something for people of all ages and interests.
Bendigo won gold in 2022 and went on to win silver at the national level. The city also won silver in 2021 and 2023 at state level.
Heathcote won silver in 2023 and bronze in 2022 in the small regional town category.
“I encourage the community to vote for Bendigo and Heathcote…as it counts towards the final scores,” Mr Harvey said. “Ask your friends and family to do the same and spread the word.
“Voting is open until 5pm on Monday 24 June so make your vote count for Greater Bendigo.”
Anyone who lodges a vote will go into a draw to win a stay for two people in Melbourne, including two nights at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, $500 worth of dining vouchers at Chin Chin and Yakimono, and two tickets for The Lume and Artvo Immersive Gallery.
Award winners will be announced at a presentation event at Cleveland Estate in Lancefield on Thursday 25 July. Vote at vtic.com.au/toptourismtown/2024finalists.
