Bendigo to celebrate over long weekend as temperatures rise

A VARIETY of fun-filled Australia Day events are scheduled across Greater Bendigo during what is forecast to be a scorching long weekend, with temperatures nearing 40C.
Triple j’s annual Hottest 100 countdown will soundtrack Saturday at several local venues, including the McIvor Hotel in Kennington and the Cambrian Hotel in North Bendigo from noon, and True Brew in Beischer Street, open from 11.30am.
The Allies Hotel in Myers Flat will also open from midday, with four-piece classic rock band Mr Anderson performing classic hits from Cold Chisel, AC/DC, the Divinyls and more from 4pm.
Monday’s public holiday will feature free, family-friendly events across the region.
Axedale Park, the Strathfieldsaye’s Shopping Centre car park and the Mia Mia Mechanics Institute will all host community breakfasts and flag-raising ceremonies from 8am.
There will also be barbecue breakfast served at Elmore’s Railway Square and the Maiden Gully Recreation Reserve from 7.30am, while the festivities at Heathcote’s Barrack Reserve will kick off at 10am.
Later in the day, a barbecue dinner packed with entertainment will take place at Huntly Hall from 6.30pm.
Lake Weeroona celebrations, co-organised by the City of Greater Bendigo and Bendigo Sandhurst Rotary Club, will include the presentation of the 2026 Bendigo Citizens of the Year awards and a market offering children’s items, pet products, fashion and food.
The event will run from 10am to 3pm.
Australia Day at the All Seasons begins at 12.30pm with live music provided by Chris Dearaugo.
Entry to all public pools will be free on Monday and most will be open later throughout the weekend due to extreme heat.
