Borough businesses back comp
RESIDENTS have the chance to win some cash thanks to a new Empowering Eaglehawk competition, open until the end of March.
Fifteen businesses contributed to a total prize money of $1300, ranging from $40 to $200 vouchers.
President of Empowering Eaglehawk, Mitchell Graham, said a similar contest ran eight years ago, but after a couple of years of the COVID-19 pandemic, now was the time to run it again.
“We thought it would be a good opportunity to relaunch Empowering Eaglehawk and get the community involved once again,” he said.
The competition takes place on social media, with participants required to follow the social enterprise’s page, like a post and tag a friend.
Mr Graham said the borough has bounced back strong from the worst of the pandemic, and he’s keen to see what rest of this year has to offer.
“With two years of COVID-19, I think businesses have bounced back strongly, they seem pretty hyped and excited for the new year and are looking to get involved with our local community,” he said.
“We try and get the community involved and make sure everyone knows what’s happening including with events, grants, projects that are happening and what we’re doing.
“Everyone gets up and about for different things such as arts, culture, sport, businesses. Everyone’s really welcoming here and it’s a really great place to live.”
As well as the competition, the community enterprise is also currently running its grants program, with up to $5000 available for local organisations. Grant applications close on 31 April.
