Call goes out for next group of ambassadors
RESIDENTS of diverse backgrounds are invited to express interest in becoming the City of Greater Bendigo’s next intercultural ambassadors.
The new round of recruitment will result in volunteers working to build relationships and connections within the community.
Intercultural ambassadors will act as a bridge between the city and culturally diverse communities, will advocate for intercultural development and work to build pride in Bendigo’s multicultural diversity and inclusion.
City community partnerships manager Andie West said the push was part of the municipality’s commitment to its vision of celebrating diversity and being welcoming to all.
“This is a voluntary leadership opportunity for multicultural and First Nations community members from across Greater Bendigo to share their culture, connect with others and enhance understanding of cultural diversity,” Ms West said.
“We are looking for people aged over 18 who are passionate about inclusion, diversity and social cohesion and want to make a positive contribution by sharing their culture with others.”
Ms West said no experience is needed, just an enthusiam and passion to support and promote cultural diversity and inclusion.
“The program aims to build the capacity and confidence of ambassadors and provide opportunities for growth, learning and leadership,” she said.
“The ambassadors will host and support events including citizenship ceremonies, festivals and launches so we are encouraging people who are willing to share their culture and their stories to apply.
“They will all undertake a flexible leadership training program and an induction program, which includes an explanation of the city’s policies and processes.”
Ambassadors can develop leadership skills, share culture, connect and network with others.
