Capital laughs chuckle into town
GET a taste of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with the special Outta Town event this Thursday.
Comedians Luke Muller, Danielle Walker and Nath Valvo will be taking to the Capital Theatre stage from 8.30pm to provide some laughs and test out some new material.
Outta Town officially started on Friday, 11 February and has seen comedians travel to Geelong, Ballarat and other regional towns.
A regular at the MICF, Valvo said he and fellow comics are itching to perform wherever they can.
“We’ve had a pretty long couple of years we’re all gagging to gig and get back out there,” he said.
“Getting out of Melbourne is always a lot more fun than gigging in Melbourne, crowds are always looser, more fun and more up for it. We can’t wait.
“Luke and Danielle are awesome, they’re in fine form at the moment. We’re the nice comics, the nice line-up.”
With the MICF kicking off on 30 March, Valvo said smaller gigs like this give comedians a chance to test out jokes.
“We get to come out to these places and do our new stuff and get it warmed up for Melbourne,” he said. “It’s always way more fun for everyone when it’s brand new.”
While the hot topic of any new comedy show would be the COVID-19 pandemic, Valvo said comedians are conscious of their role to give audiences an escape.
“It would be weird if we didn’t acknowledge what’s been going on but at the same time, I want everyone to have a really good night,” he said.
“It’s our job for an hour and a half to make you think about other stuff and forget about it all.”
As well as Outta Town, MICF will bring a RAW Comedy heat to Bendigo on Friday, 11 March.
