Cash boost for airport
BENDIGO airport will see a cash influx this year thanks to the third round of the Federal Governments Regional Airports Program which was announced 20 January.
The project approval for Bendigo will see a $100,000 upgrade to the perimeter fencing to reduce the risk of bushfires to the facility.
Bendigo airport is one of 44 regional airports to receive funding in the current round of the program.
Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister, Catherine King, said that the program would increase safety for “for aircraft, operators and passengers” who use regional services.
Ms King also said communities that benefited would gain a lot of other advantages from the program.
“These projects are also an investment in the improved delivery of goods and services, including healthcare and passenger air services,” she said.
“The Australian Government is committed to bolstering connections from Australia’s regions to domestic and global market opportunities.
“Investing in our regional airports is also critical to supporting the operational requirements of aeromedical and other emergency services.”
Nationwide, nearly $100 million has been spent on the first three round of funding under the program.
