Cathedral to host showcase of diverse artistic talent
THERE will soon be an art show in town displaying pieces by just about any artist that wants to have their work exhibited.
St Paul’s Bendigo 29th Art Show is on this weekend and will showcase a range of Central Victorian creative talent across many forms.
Member of the art show committee Rohan Phillips said part of the excitement of the event is the diversity of work that gets put up.
“It’s a range of artists all getting together with their work in and around the cathedral so that’s also part of the fun,” he said.
“It’s a way of the cathedral supporting the local arts community and celebrating creativity, particularly visual arts.
“We trust the artists to provide the good works, so there’s no vetting or shortlisting of applications.
“This year we’ve got about 170 applications, which is quite a lot, we’re very excited about that.”
More than 55 local and regional creatives have submitted works across a variety of mediums including watercolour, acrylic, oil, pen work, photography, and sculpture.
“From students to professionals, amateurs, hobbyists, people who dabble,” said Mr Phillips. “It’s a great way to bring a lot of different artists together in the one exhibition.
“We’ve opened up for sculptures this year, it’s a lot of painting but also acrylic paints, oil paints, watercolours.
“There’s usually lots of landscapes, that seems to be a major theme.”
The show’s opening and announcement of winners will be from 7.30pm to 9pm on Friday 29 October, while the show will run 10am to 4pm Saturday and 1pm to 4pm Sunday.
