CFA station gets new location
THE oldest continuous operating CFA brigade in Victoria will have a new home on Specimen Hill Road.
Construction of the new Golden Square CFA station will begin early next year and is expected to be completed by October.
Almost $4 million was allocated to the project by the State Government last year and brigade captain, Bryan Greenwood, said the team was excited to see it finally get off the ground.
“We’ve worked for this for some time now. For our volunteers to actually see movement on a new station, it’s unspeakable. We’ve been waiting 30 plus years for this so it’s great,” he said.
“Our current engine bay is the size of one engine bay that will be here, so we’re going to have room to grow [and] it’s going to be amazing for the brigade compared to what we’re in now.
“Hopefully [the new station] will bring an influx of new members. With our current station, it’s in a spot that’s hard for people to get to but with a new prominent station on a very busy road we would hope that it draws members in the front doors.”
Two homes will be demolished to make way for the new site, with design works currently underway to be approved by the City of Greater Bendigo council.
Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards, who officially announced the station’s location earlier this week, said once approval was given, construction could begin.
“It is really important that we have a brigade that is centrally located right here in Golden Square to support not just the Golden Square community but the broader region as well,” she said.
