Change to start a high powered career

MORE than forty roles with electricity providers Powercor and CitiPower are available in the biggest apprenticeship recruitment drive in a decade being undertaken by the utilities.

Recruitment staff are looking for people who love a challenge and want to be part of the companies move towards a clean energy future.

Successful candidates will take part in a four-year apprenticeship as line workers, cable jointers and substation electricians, or in traineeships for protection and control testers and designers.

Roles are available statewide in reginal areas including Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Maryborough, Echuca, Colac, Kyneton, Shepparton, Mildura, Warrnambool and Horsham as well as Melbourne.

All TAFE tuition fees and tools will be paid for by the utilities as part of the apprenticeships.

“The right candidates will be team players, have a commitment to safety and want to make a difference in the communities they live and work in,” said Ross Young, head of field services at Powercor.

“The roles suit people who enjoy working outdoors and at heights, in all types of weather, and who have a passion for hands-on learning.”

Mr Young said the apprenticeships are a unique opportunity.

“No two days are the same in these roles,” he said.

“You’ll also be working on everything from major infrastructure builds, to supporting the transition to cleaner energy, to responding to natural disasters and weather events.”

Applicants must have completed or be completing year 11 VCE or a VCAL equivalent and passed general maths/numeracy or have completed or be completing a pre-apprenticeship TAFE training course in electrotechnology.
